We are excited to announce that we have set the date for our annual Student Showcase. Our students work hard throughout the year, and this is their chance to showcase their work to the community. Put this on your calendar and plan to attend!

Lee County ATC had 17 students pass TheTRACK Pre-Apprentice Exam in three different programs Carpentry, Welding, and Electricity. The students passing this test will be allowed to start in a program as a second-year Apprenticeship. We are so proud of the hard work of these students over their time at the ATC. *Student Spotlight Tuesday* Today we visited student Gavin Fox in the electrical program at Lee ATC. Gavin is currently in Electrical Construction 2 and has previously completed Electrical Construction 1 and is CORE certified. Gavin's teacher Mr. Thacker and fellow student Elijah Ratliff are who he claims has influenced him to join the program When asked what Gavin loves about the program he says, "I know what to do!" Mr. Thacker commented that Gain is a hard worker, eager to always get involved, and a people person.

Americans Helping Americans grant provided welding jackets, gloves, and welding caps for all Lee County Area Technology Center students. The grant is to help the students work through barriers to post-secondary success. The students will now have their own safety equipment needed to start work in the welding trade

Americans Helping Americans grant provided scrubs, shoes, watches, and Rocket notebooks for the Medical Administrative Assisting students. The grant is to help the students work through barriers to post-secondary success. The students will now have the uniforms, shoes, and tools to start work in the healthcare field. The students may take the internship class with these tools. Many of the Health Science students start to work during high school.

Jackson Energy donated and installed two power poles for the Electricity Program at Lee County Area Technology Center. The poles will help the students explore the Lineman Career. *Student Spotlight Tuesday* Sydney Combs is a senior in the business program at Lee Co. ATC. She has taken many dual-credit courses with this program, including; Financial Literacy, Microsoft Office Specialist. Multimedia Publishing, Digital Literacy, and Business Communications. Sydney has also earned every possible Business Achievement Awards, such as, the Contributor Award, Leader Award, Advocate, and Capstone. She had advice about why you should think about taking this program. “Take the chance, I love being at the ATC and involved in FBLA and the business program. I have been pushed out of my comfort zone.” Sydney currently serves as the Lee Co. ATC FBLA President and the Region 6 FBLA Secretary. When asked if someone influenced her to be part of this program, she stated that.” Mrs. Miller pulled me out of my shell and has pushed me to do everything that has come along.” During her years of learning, at some point she decided to join FBLA, giving her a numerous amount of chances to learn, and love, being in business. “The opportunities that FBLA has given me has been immeasurable. I have a different outlook on the business world.” These are just a few reasons why she loves the program, however her favorite part is ”getting to make memories and meet people from everywhere.”

This morning, we visited Mr. Thacker's electrical class. Students were engaged in a hands-on lesson learning how to connect two electrical boxes together.

The grant is to help the students work through barriers to post-secondary success. The students will now have the uniforms, shoes, and tools to start work in a healthcare facility. The students must complete 16 hours of clinical in a long-term care facility as part of the training program. Many of the Health Science students start to work during high school.

Picnic Tables SkillsUSA Carpentry students are building the kid's picnic tables. They will have some ready for sale at the Woolly Worm Festival. You can also contact Tommy Judd at the ATC to pre-order the tables. The Club will also be raffling off a full-size hexagon picnic table this year. The lumber and materials were donated by Darrell Steel Lee County Building Supply.

​The Americans Helping Americans grant has helped support the first in a series of mentor meetings with students who are focusing on Advanced Medical Careers. The first speaker was Amy Wernette, a Biology Professor with Hazard Community and Technical College. Ms. Wernette stressed the importance of having a career focus and taking rigorous classes. Many of the students in the mentoring group are taking BIO 137 as a dual credit class with HCTC. “Talking to Ms. Wernette opened my eyes about looking into being a travel nurse” S “Discussing college and careers with Ms. Wernette intrigued me with all the opportunities and careers we have around us” P

​We want to congratulate 6 of our health science students for being accepted into the Nursing Pipeline Program with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Southeast Kentucky program. Over 200 students from across 16 counties applied and only 50 were accepted. In this program, students are placed with a nursing mentor in their area and provided opportunities for job shadowing, scholarship opportunities, ACT prep, soft skill development, and the opportunity to be introduced to multiple nursing career opportunities. " Homerostasis" The Health Science students were studying about homeostasis (Homerostasis). The students had to keep Homer alive by regulating his temperature, intake, excretion, and electrolytes

Lee County Area Technology Center’s Health Science Programs are partnering with Juniper Health as part of a project with Hazard Community and Technical College’s K-TECH program. This project is designed to offer work-based learning opportunities for our students in the medical field. Jessica Ritchie Human Resources manager for Juniper Health discussed with the students the processes and next steps needed to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Thanks to all involved

Pizza Cell project Mrs. Kelly’s 1st-period students in her anatomy and physiology class made pizza cells. This was a review lesson of the cell structure. The kids really had fun with this learning activity.
